Rice cookers are multi purpose! Or at least I've used them in multipurpose ways- steaming vegetables, cooking pasta, as a low scale pressure cooker- small type things. Plus, you get a rice cooker for the rice!
Yeah, I have some issue with curry where it becomes too spicy, so that's a good idea! Not exactly a 1:1 counter, but enough sweetness to offset should be enough to make it more bearable.
