This weekend I spent mostly on my couch. Well, I did go grocery shopping and I did cook and I did run (ugh, I should talk about running at some point, shouldn't I?) and I did iron all the clothes from the last month (and watch quiet a bit of the third season of Voltron; I still think the series is meh, but the female/male ratio both in lions and in general is suddenly much better and Lotor *is* a delight), but mostly I spent it on the couch.

Last weekend, however, was rather different. I went to Rosenheim, where I did:

1. Drink

Schorle - I have no idea why no other country but Germany picked up on this, they are amazing. In this case it was a dark currant one.

Samos - Greek dessert wine. 0.25l is quiet a lot, I tend to forget that :D I love my wine (too) sweet and Samos just needs to happen when I'm at a greek place.
But argh, small provincial restaurants. We have two we like in a lot Rosenheim, but ugh, I'm just spoiled when it comes to food!

Moscow mules! Why haven't we done any ourselves before? So easy and sooo good. I never thought I would like a vodka cocktail, but here I am ... (I tried my first one in Prague by the way, but not this year at the conference, last year, when we've been there in January).

Federweißer - back to sweet wines. This time in the very young variant. You can take one guess of what we will be buying two bottles of next weekend, when I'm back in Germany ...

Coffee after a hike - we may have slightly misplanned (or rather took a short detour that resulted in some 200m altitude difference on top of the 650 we planned anyway) and I was almost late for the train to catch my flight, so my dinner consisted of this and some savory baked goods from the discount grocery store close to where we parked for the hike. (We wanted to have cake/pie on the way but we either missed the alpine hut that was supposed to have a restaurant or it was closed down.)

Kvass - I haven't had any for ... I dunno, 21 years? Likely more than that. Unfortunately, it turns out that it tasted a lot better in my memory. (Or maybe I just got a not so good one, I will be trying again.)

2. Go to the mountains

First, my parents came to visit and we took them for a stroll (perhaps 30-40 meters elevation? And it was too much for my father already ...) to the Kampenwand. We took the cable car up (parents - but to be honest, 841 very steep meter altitude different are not something I can hike myself): built 1957, the said 841 meters on a slanted length of 2480m, tiny cars made for four passengers (I'm pretty sure the four of us were over the weight limit) in 14 minutes and just amazing views, both from the cable car and above. Highly recommended if you ever end up in the area.

And then with ♥ for the aforementioned 650 altitude meters turned 850 (on a length of 16.4km). But no, not up this particular mountain - the photo was actually taken at one of the high points, an alpine pasture.

Some more impressions from the hike: starting it off with ice (it is supposed to be for sharing but I ate it all myself, muahaha); the alpine restaurant that we haven't missed at thee very beginning of the hike (♥ thinks about taking his parents there the next time they visit; I would not mind joining - the sigh says "(pork) knuckle flat rate, every Saturday from 6 PM"); a giant stinkhorn.

3. Forage

Cornelian cherries. We took another walk along the river Inn and my mother and I were talking (in Russian!) about how she finds it hard to find Cornelian cherries in A. and then suddenly ♥ (who does not speak a word Russian so could not understand us) points out this Cornelian cherry tree. And I just happen to have a plastic bag on me that I forgot to take out from my pocket the day before!

Blackberries, although they turned out to be rather sour. (Thus some and not many.)

A single but beautiful porcino mushroom! (Looks like porcino is the singular of porcini?!). That one ♥ got since we did not have time to cook anything after the hike.

4. Make dessert

Zucchini-sourcream-walnut muffins for my parents visit. This is ♥ trying to steal them. He was deeply disappointed that the muffins had a slight zucchini aroma to them (stronger when still warm). I loved them.

And of course the Cornelian cherries got turned into jam, albeit on Monday back in the Netherlands (yes, one can transport foraged fruit in carry on luggage - not that I ever wanted this questions answered, but ...). Huh, the first time I posted about Cornelian cherry jam was in 2011 - 6 years ago! WTF!

I saved this tab till I could look, and I'm glad--these are such great photos (in this case also because most of the things photographed are great). I didn't know about Cornelian cherry, but it sounds like a very useful tree!
